Government was using wrong tactics to prevent an Alliance of Restoration of Democracy (ARD) Nazim elect from taking oath of his office. PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said this while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.

Sanaullah maintained said that ARD candidate Mian Muhammad Akram had won the third phase of the local body polls with 285 votes, defeating the government-backed candidate Munir Ahmed.

He alleged that after the counting of votes, three times, Federal Law Minister brother of Munir Ahmed tried to pressurise the presiding officer to manipulate the results in their favour.

"However the presiding officer resisted the pressure and issued the actual results, and later the elected Nazims were called for oath. The government turned to the court of law and got a stay to prevent Mian Muhammad Akram from taking oath," he added.

He said that they respect the judiciary and believe in its freedom, but on this issue it has acted under certain political pressure. "We demand justice and allow our winning candidate to take oath," he added.

Zaeem Qadri said that the ARD condemns the government for using negative steps to gain victory in the local body polls.
